Nuclear engineer Arnie Gundersen has a piece of the same fuel rods used inside of the reactor at the Fukushima Nuclear power plant (minus the uranium pellets, of course).
To replicate the conditions inside the crippled reactors, he first heats up the metal fuel rod with a torch, then in an attempt to cool it down sprays water on it, and the results of this seemingly logical approach to remedy the situation actually turns out to be the worst case scenario.
